I'll tell you everything about it tomorrow !

Day 10 - Visiting and keeping promises

Today we woke up quite late. Apparently we needed to rest more than what we thought.

A quick but rich brunch/breakfast and we are in the metro to see the ruined and the Coliseum.

We were quite desapointed when we got out of the metro to see the sky so dark.

Immagine_134.jpg

We start to walk around the Coliseum anyway.

Immagine_139.jpg

But soon, the rain started to fall... Using my camera with this wether started to be quite complicated.

And since I promised to update the website with pictures... We decided to deal with this matter since we could not appreciate at its right value the good visit of this piece of architectural and historical beauty.

So there is not a lot to say for today. Except that now you have some reading to do ;) and some nice pictures to look at.

Tomorrow a big day of visit is waiting for us we have to catch up for today but also for yesterday : Vatican visit. And we want of course to have a good overview of some other places and historical parts of Roma (including Sigrid suggestion... Thanks by the way).

Hope we can make it all before we have to leave for the last 3 steps of our trip...

Day 9 - Adaptation to Roma style and visiting

After a good night sleep in a proper bed.

We are able to start adjusting and becoming Roman to dive into this amazing city full of curious and stunning monuments !! But before the visits and turning into turisme mode, we want to full the fridge in order to enjoy cooking our own meals in our small but very practical kitchen !!

Transport ticket for 3 days bought and a good brunch in our stomach we start with the north of Roma.

First la Piazza del Popolo ! French people... You got the inside joke... But it's the real name !

Immagine_068.jpg

Then we wanted to see the Mausoleo Augusto but it was in renovation :( But on the way we crossed a Sephora shop... Every girls reading this is guessing my every move after this founding !!
I went in, walk around little black pen tester : in my eyes, then passed on a black eye laches : put on !

And here I am a woman again after nine days of roots style, I feel like a city miss ! Ready like no one to be the Roman girl of the day.

We crossed to the other side and walked until la Piazza dei Tribunall, the Castel Sant' Angelo to finish at the entrance of the Vatican garden and so the San Pietro Basilic... That we couldn't visit cause we were too late... So probably after tomorrow.

Immagine_104.jpg
But in Roma there are not only old beauty... Also remixed beauty ... She's still watching you !

Immagine_075.jpg

Dear all, please let me introduce my futur bike, yes yes Ferrari decided to sponsor my bike trips as they areso popular ;)

Immagine_077.jpg

We didn't visite a lot more this first day because of the morning where we took time to adjust and get comfortable in our new flat ! But also coz we got caught in bargaining.

Not because you're a tourist, you should not be expert in bargain. My best move ? I'll give it to you...

Take anything you would like to have, if there is no price it's easier, but even if there is... Ask how much it cost, when you get your answer put back the object, thank the guy and turn around. As soon as you leave, they most of the time catch you back and ask your price. Refuse again, they insist so you give your price less at least 2 euros so you can make a move toward the salesman... And here you go.

Sometimes you don't even have to give any price... One just cut the price in half after the second rejection. It's usually at this moment that you realise how expensive they sell it compared to the price they got it for.

Some might think it's not cool because people selling in the street are in need, well be reassured there are many tourists who don't bargain and our nice street salesman get what he needs at the end of the day.

Anyhow back to roots style, joining a Couchsurfeur from Roma (Diego) who couldn't host us but invited us tonight to a roof concert of experimentale music :)

Roof concert

The last artist made us fly I the night sky so we went back to our flat :) completely zen and ready to have another good night sleep.

Day 8 - Finaly To Roma

This morning we left quite quickly !!! We had a good stop in the centre of Civitavecchia to check out the statut of the couchrequests made for Roma... Still no positive answer...

Despite this not so good news we hit the road with strong legs, decided to enjoy our journey whatever happen !
Most of the time we were cycling really close to the sea... So we decided that after 40 km we would deserve a nice break on a beach and a good swim in the sea !!

And this is exactly what we did in Ladispoli... Whatever happen... Happened !

We stop at a fruits store, because honestly when you are cycling under the sky of Italy, fresh fruit becomes your favourite food !!! So here we are at the fruits heaven...

A guy with a guitar was sitting there, when he saw us he smiled and told us right away that he way happy to see us ! Why ?

"Well now, he said, I know I'm not the only one who wear a helmet on my bicycle !"

And it makes me realise that this is something I didn't told you about ! No one (almost) wears a helmet on their bicycle !!

Anyway, we start chatting and telling the guitarist about our trip. The fruits man didn't speak English but the translation was made. Finnaly we discovered that the fruits butcher as we will call him later, was also a musician. As he gave us his YouTube link we gave him our blog link.

Immagine_025.jpg Immagine_027.jpg The Fruits Butcher

JC (guitar guy) took a look at Riko's bike and as from the beginning we wanted to make some improvement to the latter, he indicated us a place where we could find everything he needed.

Then come the times of thanks and goodbyes... And gifts ! Dario (fruits butcher) didn't want us to pay anything ! He said : "go to the beach and enjoy !".

So we took his word as a command... :) and please admire how Riko enjoyed his watermelon as a stone age man...

Immagine_041.jpg Immagine_042.jpg

After heating graps and bananas, it was so hot that when we went swimming in the sea... I didn't even took the time to change and dived into the water with my clothe on ! I thought... What the hell I'm going to be dry by the time we get to Roma anyway...

And I was in fact practicly dry. If it wasn't for the water I pulled on me in the toilet of a gas station... We don't change good habits... I might not have talked about this during my travel in Spain. But I used to stop at gas station to use their toilet as bathroom, hahaha !

Immagine_059.jpg

So as you know we had no host for Roma. The nearest camping was still too far from the city to be able to enjoy properly the treasures they are to visit in this city. So we jumped into an Internet point trying to contact hostels but the prices where quite expensive even for dorms (between 25 € to 35 € when not even higher).

We decided to try it the Siena way : going as close as we can to the city centre and looking for a place that would be : "the greatest deal ever

And that's again what happen !

We crossed a sign indicating the direction to a hotel/residence Magnolia.
Since we were really close to the Vatican, we decided to believe and god's misterious acts and we followed the way to this place.

So here we are, in a nice small appartment (yes we have a small kitchen) for the ridiculous (regarding the city and how close we are to it) amount of 70 € per night, ready to live as roman folks for the 3 - 4 days to come ;)

Day 7 - Orbetello to Civitavecchi

After our second night in a camping, we are back on the road !!

And as we arrived with the sea on our behind we leave on the same way with a nice mooring with mother Sea giving us fresh air and motivation. Good bye Orbetello !

Good morning Mother Sea

On our way in the last branch back to the continent we were lucky to meet mother nature in her wild aspect still very friendly : Good morning Mother Nature

Along the road we crossed a natural reserve run by WWF. For those who never heard about WWF it's an association that is working to save wild animal and endangered species.
This reserve was located on the lac Di Burano. A natural lac formed by the sea through a breach in a small forest. If I didn't told you before Riko comes from Brittany and since the beginning he was expecting to cycle near the sea. So here you can see how happy he was when we stopped here for a short break... Ready to dive in !!!

Riko ready to dive

For me it was like an old memory coming back to me... In Spain when I was style innocent and ready to conquer the whole world... Cycling near the lac of the Albuffera Parc. This stop was like going back to this innocent and full of dream times !
Immagine_130.jpg

And finally... After 69.78 km in about 3:45 (the time got erased before I had the chance to write down the exact numbers) we finally arrived at a camping site near Civitavecchia. As you an see on the picture below... We are just on time for a nice sunset shot ! As usual I would be tempted to say...

Immagine_008.jpg

At the camping we had the good surprise to find out that it was jazz night at the restaurant !
So we decided that we deserve a good meal, since we were mostly eatin sandwiches for Riko and cereal bars for me... We loved our meal and the show. They were two women and they even played the original version of the song that we knew as a remix called "papa l'americano".

Tomorrow... We will wake up quite early because we want to be in Rome... Before sunset ;) !!

Day 6 - Grosseto to Orbetello near the sea !

Heyheyhey !!

Today we woke up decided to deal with Riko's leg... cause it was making him almost unable to cycle...
So we went in the city of Grosseto looking for a doctor... we end up at the hospital !

As you can imagine it took quite long until we obtain a diagnostic : serious infection !!
So we went from the hospital to the drugstore to buy some antibiotics...

And again the train to go to Orbetello so we have still enough time to take the bike and cycle along the branches that connect the Porto Ercole to the continent. So today we will finally get to cycle with the sea as a compagnion :)
Only 45.11 km in 2:53 hours but it was enough considering the situation.

Looking for our next camp site, because in fact in Orbetello and the region there were no Couchsurfeurs, we had to pratice a multiface road, from stones to sand... quite funny.

So we planned on sleeping soon to be in a good shap coz tomorrow we are back on our bikes for good !!!

Day 5 - visite of Siena and going to Grosseto

Good morning everyone !!

We went out yesterday night to get some medecine for Riko who was badly hit by a mean mousquito... his ankel has almost doubled.
And it was a god way of having a first taste of Siena... well from what we saw... it's very dynamic ;)
There are so many people everywhere !!

During the day we visit this old city...

Immagine_031.jpg Immagine_035.jpg Immagine_038.jpg

And, girls..., There are looooooots of shops (dresses, bags, shoes, hats....)

There are not so many monuments to visit because the city itself is a treasure of the past.

So after a nice tour we went to the train station to take a train around 5 pm to arrive early in Grosseto...
Well for the French people... I beg never complain again about the SNCF !!!

There were so many problems that it would be too long and very annoying to tell, you anlu need to know that we arrived around 9 pm...

We had to take the bikes for something like 20 km to go to a camping... Yes, yes, we had to cycle during the night... and our light was not working... so let skype this end of day. Because I am sure that no one want to know in what mood of anger we were...

As one would say... "to each day its pain". So I say "Tomorrow will be a better day" !

Day 4 - Firenze to Siena

Ok guys, todqy we did 75 km in 5:05 hours you might think that it should have been easier than the last rout... Well No !

First it was the hottes day we had since we arrived, and it was all mountains going up and down. It was a real surprise since our dear host in Firenze (that you keep in our heart anyway) told us that the road was ... flat !!! So imagine us ready to arrive soon and fresh to Siena, discovering after 20 km that we were going to suffer like hell !

The highest point we reached was about 400/500 meters. Small mount but still difficult when you are beginners. And when you are not use to hot weather.
When I was in Spain, I was alone, with no expectation and I was just following the road going up when I had to without thinking. But when you are two the communication makes you realize what you are doing. And I think that when you are awar that you are performing something hard... you feel it's even harder. Like when focusing on a pain makes it more real.

After the first hight point, we could enjoy the pleasure of the way down !! The wind, the speed... and going forward without any effort ;)

We it started to go up agin we decided to try something... we "hitchbiked" ! We found a nice Italian guy who took our bikes in the back of his truck and we sat with him on the front to go up for 10 km... we were so gratful of this 10 km gift. The guy was really fun and he warned us...that the pain was not over... but it was a relief not to have this one done.

When we finally arrived in Siena... it was quit late and but the gift was a nice picture of the old city from above with again a great sunset...

Since we had no answers from any Couchsurfeurs ready to host. We looked for camping or hostels, but no one could help us...
So finally, we went into a hotel, the receptionnist was really nice (a biker too). His hotel was full but he called other hotel to find one not so expensive with a room available.

So tonight we are sleeping in a great room with 3 beds in the center of Siena... for only 60 € because it was a last-minute booking !!

Tomorrow, visite of Siena because we cannot leave this full of joy and celebration without a proper tour.
We will tke the train to catch up and go to Grosseto where there is nothing to visite.

Day 3 - Visiting Firenze / Florence

The past 2 days we were mostly on the road, getting exhauted...

So you can guess that for our first day were we didn't have to wake up early... we slept !!!

Waking up at 9:30 in the òorning never felt so good. I directly went on Coushsurfing to make some couchrequest for Siena, Grosseto, Civitavecchia and Roma. For Orbetello we will probably camp. I'm pretty happy about it, coz it means I didn't bring and carry the tent for nothing :D

After a morning on the computer, we did some food shooping for the meal I plaaned on doing for dinner to thank Daniele for is hospitality, his advices and generosity :)

And finally we got to visite Firenze like proper tourists :) I kept a promis to take in picture a place where a part of Hannibal's movie was made...
we walked in the old part of the city admiring the architectur and visiting some cathedrals.

Daniele joined us around 7 pm and we finnished with a wonderful view of Firenze from the highest point in town... I could take some really nice pictures with a very beautiful sunset on the òountains surrounding the city.

Back to his place, I cooked riz with escalop... nothing wonderful... except that I also made my famous (and well known by many of you readers...) normal sauce !!

For the short story : This squce is the one my mom alway do since I can remember eating... and I called it the "normal sauce". Why ?
The young me would answer : "Because all the other sauce have weird names... this one is the one a eat usualy... so it's normal... like a normal sauce !"

Welcome to my world of twisted but still very logical mind ! :)

Now Riko is sleeping and Daniele too... So I'll soon do the same. Tomorrow about 68 km are waiting for us and we already know that there are going to be some hills.
So we decided to leave Firenze at 8 am... means that I only have a little less than 5 hours and a half to sleep :D (no problem for me).

The only thing I'm a little worry about... we didn't get any positive answer regarding a couch in Siena... so we will either camp or find a hostel...
Riko would prefer the hostel... but I think you already guess what I would prefer ;)

Good night to all of you and thank you for the comments, it's always a pleasur !

Isa from Peru, Marko from Slovakia, Mamou from France and Nath&Mike from Luxembourg ;)... This adventure is going international !!!

Day 2 - Lucca to Firenze

Hello people,

Just a quick post to say that everything is fine.

Today 102,13km in 6h00 !!! We lost some time looking for the right road and finding our super nice couchhoster home. But we made it !

Riko is exhausted and me too but for him it's the first trip so applaus please !

I'll write a little more later. See you tomorrow ;)

------

Back !!

So we left Stefano's house quite late (10 am) coz we both needed to rest and ressource ourselves regarding the long road waiting for us.

We thought we only had 88 KM to do... but we went through a lot of small roads and we gor lost a couple of times :)

And since it was Sunday everything was closed, I alway eat cereal bard when I'm cycling, but for a big guy like Riko is not enough.
We finnaly found a very chic restaurant... after 5 minutes of "hand talking" we finnaly got a very good sandwich of serrano ham.

The road was longer than expected like I already said... but the worst thing that happened...
I forgot to write down the phone number of our host and the number of is place... yeah, yeah you can all laugh at me and my red fish memory capacity !!

After searching for an internet point in vain... I decided to go along the street of our host and try different doors until we find him or an internet connecxion...
Crazy me ? ... Well maybe but it worked !!

I met a nice young girl who accepted to let òe go for 2 minutes inside her place (even met her mom) to check on the internet the phone number of Daniele :)

We got in front of his door and called him, he opened the big heavy door of what I like to call his castel... that will soon become a B&B ;)

Little talking, good diner and strait to bed !!

Let the trip begin - Pisa to Lucca

Hello everyone !!

We arrived few hours ago and we are now in Pisa, searching for the famous tour :) And also someone who will host us when we get to Lucca.

The way to Lucca should be around 30 km... easy to begin the journey.

After a little walk/bike tour in the city we got to see the famour tour.
We felt it was really white !! And depending on the way you look at it, Sometimes I felt it was not bending.
Then each one of us had a good meal of pasta in a small snack/restaurent to who we gave th addres of the blog because our bikes made them curious and so we told them about our trip :)

(pictures to come I swear, just a problem to upload them... there are just too big I think)

-----

Finally it was 26.44 km in 1h41m it was going up and we only had 2 small bottles of water.
When we found a place with water you bought 2 BIG bottles :)

After a quick visit of Lucca we had to cycle again to get to our host home that is outside Lucca.
It was nice coz Stephano's (pic to come) house was really big and beautiful

We were a little bit sad when we arrived at Stefano's place coz after the plane and everything we are pretty tired and we feel like we didn't the best of Lucca, which is a really cute and beautiful town...

And as the great host he is, Stefano took us to Lucca by night to give us a little tour of the city, without our bikes we could enjoy much better !
He made us tast the chichina and we met some friend of his for a small drink (pic to come)

Then... back home to a really necessary good night of sleep !

See you tomorrow !!!

My trip in Italy becomes "our"...

Hi there,

As you can guess by the title... I won't be alone this time !

How did that happen ???

Well I think that most of you know me, I'm very talkative and therefore I've been talking and spreading the word of Tripavelo Season 2 to every single person around me close or not, with who I had the opportunity to talk to.
And what had to happen just happened... someone got really attracted by the idea and decided to come along for the whole trip.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have the pleasure and great honor to present you :
Riko !!!

We'll be leaving on the 14th of July (French national day) from Paris and we'll arrive in Pisa where our 2 weeks journey will begin !!

Sunday, July 1 2012

And once again... Trip à vélo is back !!!

Three years after the first trip, as you can guess... this is the new beginning of a second bike trip !!!

The concept and the overall organisation are similar to the original trip in Spain, the bike stay the same, the girl on the bike... still the same, I swear I haven't got crazier ;)

Then what changes ???

 • The Destination:
Instead of Spain, this time I'm taking you to Italie ! The main cities I'll be stopping at are well known... Pise, Florence, Siena, Rome (famous famous Rome) and finally Pompeii, Herculaneum trough Naples.
 • The Distance:
Last trip, you followed me during two weeks for around 600 km on the coast... This time I'm inviting you to follow me during two weeks again but most certainly for approximatively 780 km !!! Almost 200 km more than in Spain. For those who like to push the limits...

I've been talking about this second trip for several weeks now, and people generally say... "you're brave !"

I just want to answer one thing... "The border between bravery and recklessness is very thin..."
So stop admiring with you mouth and come enjoy and admire the landscape with your own eyes if you dare !!!

"What the hell is she saying ???" You're asking yourself...
You read me well, everyone is free to join me on one point of the trip, just post it on here and we could by biking side by side for a little while or more !

Now I leave you to realize the opportunity you have to not only follow a great trip by reading it, but also get on it in real life time...

Get crazy, get wild... keep on living the life you dream of...
